Solicitor Descriptors

By SLAS Spokesperson

Since it would appear that the badge (sorry, 'descriptor') of 'solicitor' is now to be made freely available to any Tom, Dick or LP, perhaps SLAS should be promoting/protecting the use of the term 'Scottish Law Agent' to denote the trusted adviser of choice?

See the notes to the draft solicitor descriptor regulations published by the Law Society with fuller comment in the SLAS December Gazette.

Good Suggestion but this is not a new departure. A substantial number of the solicitor members of the Law Society are not independent law agents in any sense and the 2010 Act and ensuing regulations are merely another stage in the dilution of the term solicitor.

Are we to assume from the greeting "Gentlemen" that female solicitors are not included in this discussion?

Ouch. The letter was originally addresed to certain members of male gender and I lifted it for the website. No offence intended to the lady members.
