Following the scheduled HMRC-wide online services upgrade on 24 – 27 October, some customers have told us that Stamp Taxes Online has been taking longer to access. Customers may have to make several attempts to login to the ‘Welcome’ page – or have to wait longer than usual to get in. They may also get error messages saying ‘You need to activate’ or ‘System Error’ or ‘System Unavailable’.
We are working with our IT suppliers to improve the speed and reliability of the service and, as this is an intermittent problem, we are advising customers to keep trying. Most returns are still being received without difficulty.
Responses to some online submissions submitted on 31 October have also been delayed. In these circumstances we have asked customers not to send duplicate returns. We aim to get responses to them as soon as possible.

If customers have specific questions about the online service they should telephone the Online Services Helpdesk (OSH) on 0845 6055 4513. This Helpdesk is temporarily busier than usual, so please be aware that at peak times it may take slightly longer to get through.
