International Criminal Bar Association

By SLAS Spokesperson

Lawyers from more than 90 Bars and Law Societies have agreed to form an International Bar Association to provide legal representation to those who are summoned before the ICC. This has the support of the CCBE and a framework constitution has been agreed. Mr. Malcolm Fowler, the former Chairman of the Criminal Law Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales, speaking at a Conference in Montreal at which the proposals were being considered, said that the integrity and independence of the ICC depended upon there being a truly independent criminal Bar.
