It is always a matter of regret to report the death of a professional colleague and friend but all the more so when the death is entirely unexpected and very premature and the friend has achieved high distinction but not yet reached the peak of his potential.

The Committee was concerned about the guidelines issued in February 1999 by The Law Society of Scotland in relation to closing dates and notes of interest.
Unfortunately the Roadshow scheduled to take place at the end of the year in the Borders area had to be cancelled because of lack of support. The Society is very keen to make contact with its members as well as providing interesting lectures which can count towards CPD.
The Committee is concerned about the large number of members who are resigning and would urge firms to think seriously about instituting a policy whereby only one partner remains a member of the Society.
Members will be sad to learn of the death of former President DAVID HARKESS who died in Dunfermline on 13th January after a short illness.
