JOHN SINCLAIR
It is with utmost sorrow that we report the death of John Sinclair who died suddenly on Sunday 8th November 2009. Our thoughts and condolences go out to John's wife Sandra and his children, Caroline and Euan and his grandchildren, Gavin, Will, Fleur and Martha. John has been much more than a colleague to the Society for the many years during which he has maintained our most iconic publication, the Memorandum Book, and John will be missed more especially on a personal level by all members of our Council and by many other members of the Society. John suffered a stroke many years ago but always more or less ignored any affliction that this brought about and it is especially sad that he had almost completely recovered from the stroke when he died suddenly on Sunday. Members are asked at this time to send in their reflections on John so that we can gather these and record them in John's memory. Our address is 166 Buchanan Street Glasgow G1 2LW, DX GW 266 Glasgow, LP 5-Glasgow 7, Fax 0141 353 3819, email secretray@slas.co.uk
A former student of John's writes to say that John cancelled a class one day with the gruff explanation that he had to go through to Edinburgh to abolish a feudal system - as indeed he seems to have done.
Accounts of John's sporting prowess include the occasion he reached the final of the gents' doubles at Whiteinch Tennis Club in Glasgow. A sequence of byes and withdrawls had secured the route to the final without a match having been played. The final was played, however, with an unusually decisive outcome.
